“At the end of the day, it’s very fulfilling when you know you’ve used your skills to make a difference in somebody’s life…”
Dr. Yusuf Gulleth was born and raised in Tanzania, but went to the College of the Holy Cross here in Worcester before attending medical school. “I had relatives in Worcester and that’s how I learned about Holy Cross and eventually wound up going to college here,” he explains.
Dr. Gulleth has always wanted to give back to the community and feels that medicine gives him the perfect opportunity to do so. “I wanted to help the community and have a career where I could interact with people each day, and being a doctor allows me to do that. I really enjoy working with my patients, I always learn something interesting from them.”
At Reliant Medical Group, Dr. Gulleth treats all of the disorders that have to do with the ear, nose and throat, including sinus disease, disorders of the ear, snoring, salivary gland disorders and other head and neck problems. Dr. Gulleth is especially interested in treating chronic ear diseases, sinus disorders and voice problems. “At the end of the day, it’s very fulfilling when you know you’ve used your skills to make a difference in somebody’s life, whether treating a simple ear problem or major surgery, it’s great to know you’ve helped someone.”
In his practice, Dr. Gulleth is a big believer in communicating with his patients and working closely with them. “Care is really a collaboration between the patient and providers. Patients have to work with us and we have to work with them. You both have to be on the same page to make sure everything gets done properly.”
One of the things that Dr. Gulleth enjoys about practicing medicine is the ability to learn about and use the latest technologies to help patients. “There are so many things going on in medicine from more effective medications, treatment changes, different surgeries, different surgical tools, new endoscopic tools, things keep getting invented and it keeps this specialty interesting…it’s really very exciting to be a part of it.”
When he has some free time away from his patients, Dr. Gulleth enjoys spending time with his wife, family, and friends in the area.
