Certified Nurse-midwives at Reliant Medical Group
The practice of nurse-midwifery was established in the United States in the 1920’s. A certified nurse-midwife (CNM) is a registered nurse with advanced training in obstetrics and gynecology. A CNM provides a full range of Ob/Gyn services including routine gynecology, family planning services, preconceptual care, pre-natal and postpartum care and, of course, delivering babies. At Reliant Medical Group CNMs attend births at Saint Vincent Hospital which is located in the Worcester Medical Center. The CNM is trained in both nursing and midwifery.
Nurse-midwives are certified by the American College of Nurse Midwives and must be formally educated through an accredited post-graduate program affiliated with an institution of higher education. In addition, they must demonstrate clinical competence and pass a rigorous national exam after their training. The nurse-midwifery practice was established at Reliant Medical Group in 1990. Currently, we have CNM’s practicing in our offices at the Worcester Medical Center, Westborough, Leominister, Webster and Holden.
CNMs at Reliant Medical Group take care of women who are in overall good health. If you have a medical or an obstetrical complication, the CNM will refer you to the care of an obstetrician or in some cases you can be co-managed. The CNMs and physicians work together as a cohesive team to ensure the health of you and your newborn child.
At Reliant Medical Group, our certified nurse-midwives view each pregnancy as a unique event and encourage you to consider all of your options for labor and delivery and to personalize your own birth plan within the confines of a safe delivery.
We are proud to announce that our Certified Nurse Midwives now offer on call services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays. This allows for continuity of care and a way to better meet the needs of our community. The Certified Nurse Midwives at Reliant Medical Group will continue to work collaboratively with the Reliant Ob/Gyn physicians.
