Medical Mythbuster: Does a Pumpkin Spice Latte Really Contain as Much Sugar as Two Snickers Bars?

Well, not quite, but it’s very close. Two full-size Snickers bars contain 54 grams of sugar, while a 16 oz. pumpkin spice latte from your favorite coffee chain contains approximately 50 grams of sugar. That’s equivalent to over 12 teaspoons of sugar!

Consuming too much sugar can lead to many serious health problems including obesity, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease and even increase your risk of certain cancers. So please limit your consumption of sugary drinks and candy bars as much as you can.

If you really love the taste of a pumpkin spice latte, try making it yourself with some healthier ingredients such as organic coffee, pumpkin, maple syrup, coconut milk, and pumpkin spice. There are loads of great recipes online, and you may find it just as enjoyable as the one available at your favorite coffee chain.
