At first glance, it might seem that consuming locally-produced honey would provide a protective effect against the pollens that cause allergies, similar to how allergy shots work. However, just like a beehive, this theory has holes in it. That’s because much of the pollen present in honey is not the same type that humans are allergic to, so there is no positive effect. What’s more, it’s possible that some people could develop a reaction to the type of pollen that is present in honey if they consume enough. So enjoy your honey (it’s a healthy sweetener) just don’t expect it to cure your allergies.
