The Reliant Research Department is Looking for Patient Advisors
May 17, 2018 / Research

Reliant Medical Group is part of an exciting new national research program called All of Us. As we prepare to start this new program, we are looking for about 10 Reliant patients to serve as Patient Advisors. The role of Patient Advisors is to use their experiences and first-hand knowledge to provide input, feedback, and suggestions on how best to conduct this research program at Reliant Medical Group.

What is the All of Us Research Program?

The All of Us Research Program is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It is part of the Precision Medicine Initiative.

The goal is to recruit over one million people to join All of Us. People from all over the United States are being asked to join so that the research reflects the diversity of our country.

People who join will share information about their health, habits, and what it’s like where they live. Researchers hope to learn why some people escape illness and others don’t, and plan better ways to prevent and treat illness.

Why have an advisory panel?

We are creating an advisory panel in order to better understand patients’ priorities, perceptions, and questions. When we talk with people from varied backgrounds and walks of life we will be better able to reach out in a meaningful way to our patients.

What is the time commitment?

As we get ready to recruit patients for this research program, we will hold one or two advisory panel meetings. The meetings will last about one to two hours each.  Some Patient Advisors might have the opportunity to get more involved.

Will I be compensated for my time?

We will give you a small gift card to thank you for your time.

If I become a Patient Advisor, what would I be expected to do?

During the meeting, we will ask for your opinion on how we should set up the program at our clinics. We may show you materials, or simply present information and ask you for your opinion.

I am interested. What do I do next?

If you are interested, reach out to Peggy Preusse, RN at Reliant Medical Group in the Research Department at (508) 595-2219 or Peggy.preusse@reliantmedicalgroup.org.

Peggy will ask you a few questions about yourself and your interest in the program. We probably will not be able to involve everyone who is interested. If you are interested but are not chosen for this panel, you can let us know if you would like us to save your name for a future opportunity.
