“No one ever forgets the birth of a child or undergoing surgery. It’s an honor to be a part of that.”
Originally from Manhattan, Dr. Alison Madden studied art in college and wasn’t really contemplating a career in medicine. Fortunately, her husband (who was studying to become a doctor), helped spark her interest in a medical career. “Originally I was going to be a massage therapist and then a midwife but I enjoyed my studies so much I eventually made the decision to go to medical school and become a doctor,” she explains.
One of the things Dr. Madden truly enjoys about being an OB-Gyn physician is being in the delivery room. “I love delivering babies – it’s one of my favorite things. In medical school I would sometimes tear up, I couldn’t believe that you got to be a part of that process of bringing a new life into the world. You go through such intense experiences with your patients. No one ever forgets the birth of a child or undergoing surgery. It’s really an honor to be a part of that.”
In her practice Dr. Madden enjoys using her surgical skills to help patients. “Surgery is very patient-focused now. For instance, instead of doing a hysterectomy to fix a problem we now we have other options including endometrial ablations, myomectomy procedures and other minimally invasive procedures. These help people recover quicker with less pain, which has been a tremendous benefit for patients.”
When she is not busy with her patients, Dr. Madden enjoys family activities with her husband and children, as well as her two dogs. She also enjoys running, yoga, healthy cooking and working on art projects when she can find the time.
