Working at a ski resort when she was younger helped lead Dr. Betsy Burbank to a career in medicine. “I was working at Mt. Snow one winter and there was so much snowfall that year that I got laid off from snowmaking,” she explains. “I ended up working in the First Aid department with a physician who I thought was really amazing. That’s what really inspired me to go to medical school.”
When treating her patients Dr. Burbank likes to put people at ease and find out what their biggest concern is. “Sometimes it’s not always what a patient says with words that’s important, but the unspoken part,” she explains. “I try to work really hard at communicating and addressing needs before the end of the visit so the patient has all the tools they need to get well. Co-generating a plan of care with each patient is also an important way to ensure they will carry out your care guidelines.”
In her spare time Dr. Burbank enjoys playing with her children and the family pets, gardening, and going skiing and mountain biking. She also enjoys spending time at Mount Wachusett.
