“I just love figuring out how to help my patients.”
Dr. Christina Acocella has always been passionate for her career as an OB-Gyn. Throughout medical school, she experienced a variety of different practices, but always knew that being an OB-Gyn would be the area she wanted to pursue. “I fell in love with all the aspects of OB-Gyn care,” she explains. “I loved that you get to follow a woman from when she’s 14 or 15 and first seeing an OB-Gyn, through the birth of her children and later into menopause.”
As an OB-Gyn, Dr. Acocella finds that it is important to engage the patient in their own care. “It’s something that I try very hard to do, to see where the patient is coming from. Not only from a medical point of view, but also emotionally,” she explains. Dr. Acocella finds that tailoring her care to the patient helps provide the best overall treatment for them. “I try to really work with the patient and find out what care is best for them.” Dr. Acocella enjoys seeing patients for family planning consults and treating everyone from teenagers to women dealing with post-menstrual problems. Some of the procedures that Dr. Acocella performs in-office include LEEP for abnormal cervical cells and colposcopies. She performs robotic-assisted surgery using the Da Vinci Surgical System at Milford Hospital and does other minimally invasive procedures as well as births at MetroWest Medical Center.
Dr. Acocella finds that technology has helped improve the way she practices. “When we went from paper charts to electronic medical records, I thought that it was probably one of the best things that happened in the sense that now, you have access to multiple aspects of a patients care,” she explains. She finds that using the latest technology helps make everything more efficient for those receiving care.
In speaking with Dr. Acocella, it’s easy to see that she truly enjoys coming to work each day. “I just love figuring out how to help my patients,” she explains. “I also love making those close connections with people…it makes every day unique.”
In her spare time, Dr. Acocella enjoys weight lifting, cooking, baking, hiking and spending as much time outdoors as possible.
