A graduate of Loyola University and Midwestern University, Delia decided to pursue a career in medicine so she could help people. “I have always been fascinated by how the human body works and how with the help of science we can effect positive changes in people’s health and overall well-being,” she explains. “Becoming an advanced practitioner was an obvious choice for me because I could use my love of medicine to help people in a very real way.”
Delia works in the Division of Dermatology at Reliant, helping patients deal with a variety of skin issues. “Since my years in school, I have always been drawn to the practice of dermatology. There is something about being able to ‘see’ both what you are treating and also how the treatment is working that really appeals to me,” she says. Delia believes that it’s important to cultivate a strong provider-patient partnership. “I like to educate the patient on their condition and make them feel like they are part of the medical decision-making process,” she explains. “This way, instead of it seeming like I’m just telling them what to do, they feel empowered to take an active role in their treatment and ultimately this leads to better overall compliance and much better patient outcomes.”
Delia truly enjoys being part of the dermatology team here at Reliant, helping to take care of everything from acne to skin cancer. “Dermatological conditions can affect patients both physically and psychologically. It’s very rewarding to be able to treat someone and help them so that they can see their condition improve before their eyes.” When she is not busy with her husband and two boys, Delia enjoys doing Pilates and as well as running to stay in shape. She also enjoys traveling when she has the chance and learning about other countries, cultures, and cuisines.
