Although for generations her family members have pursued science and technology careers, Dr. Zeko-Underwood decided to break tradition and pursue Psychology as a career, eventually earning her PhD. She has been a behavioral health provider for over a decade. In her work Dr. Zeko-Underwood focuses on how physical and mental health problems affect the psychological well-being of a patient.

Dr. Zeko-Underwood believes in a team approach and including her patients in the decision-making process. “I believe good outcomes rely on an on-going communication between all involved providers and the patient,” she explains. “Respect for the patient’s experience along with empathy improves the quality of services and treatment outcome.”

When she is not busy helping patients, Dr. Zeko-Underwood enjoys spending time with family and settling down with a good book. She also enjoys trying new restaurants and cuisines and says that if she had not been a psychologist she would have become a travel writer or an ethnographer. In addition to English, Dr. Zeko-Underwood speaks Albanian, Italian and Spanish.
