A provider may not have star ratings accompanying his/her website profile for one or more of the following reasons:
“I feel a true joy when someone I treat has a condition that I can make go away.”
Dr. Hyemin Pomerantz first became interested in medicine during college when she volunteered to work with kids in Harlem who had sickle cell anemia. “This gave me an opportunity to see what it’s like to live with a chronic disease, and work with some really caring doctors,” she explains. “It really helped me decide on medicine as a career.”
In her dermatology practice at Reliant Dr. Pomerantz sees patients for a variety of problems including acne, chronic skin conditions like psoriasis and atopic dermatitis, skin cancer, rosacea, and other problems. She is fellowship-trained in laser procedures and cosmetic dermatology and can treat patients with wrinkles and skin texture issues.
Dr. Pomerantz believes strongly in providing holistic care. “I always try to listen carefully to my patients to help determine the treatment that is best for them. I like to understand my patient’s lifestyle and tailor their treatment to the way they live,” she explains. “I’ve learned I can’t just make an assumption as to what people want to do in terms of their personal care. For instance, some people may be fine coming in the office for treatment once a month and others may find that they don’t have the time and need a different option.”
Dr. Pomerantz says the aspect of dermatology she enjoys is going to work every day and making people better. “Skin conditions really have an effect on people’s everyday lives as well as their emotions too. I feel a true joy when someone I treat has a skin problem that I can help make better and when treatment improves their self-esteem and confidence. I’m looking forward to the new therapeutics being developed that will help an even greater number of patients.”
On the weekends Dr. Pomerantz enjoys hiking with her husband and two children. She also likes to visit her family in South Korea.
