“Relationships are very important to me.”
Growing up in India, Dr. Javeria Kouser knew she wanted to have a career that made a difference. “I saw a lot of suffering growing up in India and I wanted to alleviate that and make a difference in people’s lives,” she explains. “Since I enjoyed science and have always been fascinated by human behavior as to how people respond differently to similar situations in life, I thought becoming a doctor would be the best career for me.”
Dr. Kouser chose to practice in Internal Medicine because she liked the challenge and variety of cases she gets to see. “As an internist you need critical thinking skills for assessment and differential diagnosis which I find both exciting and challenging.” Dr. Kouser also likes the continuity of care and the relationships she is able to develop with patients and their families working in Internal Medicine. “That’s a very important part of the way I like to practice. Relationships are very important to me.” Dr. Kouser also has an interest in women’s health as well as behavioral health issues. “I like to tell my patients that they can talk to me about any problem they may have and we can always find a way to deal with it.”
When it comes to treating her patients, Dr. Kouser knows that having a good, solid relationship based on trust is important as patients are more likely to follow the treatment plan and have continued engagement with their health issues. “I believe in using evidence-based medicine in treating patients, but I also strive to treat the patients as a whole by addressing their emotional and physical health, and engaging and working with them in making the best decision for their health at the given time.” Dr. Kouser enjoys practicing in Reliant’s team care environment, and working closely with Dana Kraus, NP, her partnering provider.
In her spare time Dr. Kouser enjoys reading, exercise and yoga. I strive to have a work life balance to enjoy my time with my 2 daughters and husband. I enjoy reading, as Confucius once said, “Real Knowledge is to know the extent of one’s ignorance.”
