“I have always been intrigued by how the body and mind interact.”

Growing up in a family involved in the medical field, Dr. Jeanne Esler knew she wanted to have a career helping others, which she now does working as a clinical psychologist. “I believe that all people have the ability to improve their physical and mental health, but sometimes it is beneficial to talk to someone outside of friends and family to help gain perspective and learn new strategies and helpful tools,” she explains.

Dr. Esler specializes in using Behavioral Health to help patients. She treats physical conditions that are impacted by thoughts and mood such as weight management, sleep issues, headaches, pain management, and coping with medical illness. Dr. Esler also specializes in treating anxiety disorders, panic disorder, depression and dealing with grief and loss. “I have always been intrigued by how the body and mind interact,” she explains. “In the U.S., most people think of a health problem as either physical or psychological. However, many other cultures don’t believe this. They view the body and mind as interrelated and I agree. When we don’t feel well physically or are coping with an illness or injury, it is only natural that our mood and thoughts are also impacted. When we are struggling with our emotions and are stuck in unhelpful thought patterns, this definitely impacts our health. Therefore, I think it is imperative to address all components of what a person is experiencing.”

Dr. Esler utilizes a Cognitive Behavioral Approach with her patients. “I find this approach not only effective, but also empowering and rewarding. I ask patients to take an active role in their wellness, and I often ask for homework and activities to be completed between sessions,” she explains. “I also like to incorporate relaxation and mindfulness when possible. It is a huge privilege to be trusted with someone’s thoughts and vulnerabilities and to teach skills and strategies that can empower them to make positive changes.”

In her spare time Dr. Esler loves to be outdoors, no matter what the season. She also loves to travel and has been involved with Mental Health Treatments in Africa. Dr. Esler also enjoys singing, attending concerts, and visiting museums in addition to spending time with her family.
