Jeniffer has had a varied career in the medical profession. She began studying Respiratory Therapy, phlebotomy and EKG technology but, was not fulfilled because they appeared to have a greater focus on the condition versus the patient. “They did not offer me an opportunity to spend time and really get to know the patients,” she explains. She then became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). “While working as a CNA I was introduced to occupational therapy, I knew I had found my true calling and I never looked back.”
In her practice Jeniffer likes to put a big emphasis on patient-centered care. “I believe this is the core of occupational therapy. This allows for the client to be the center of the treatment plan, where the therapist and client work together to establish goals, treatment, and discharge planning. I believe client-centeredness promotes adherence to the care plan which helps support the client’s health and overall well-being.”
Jeniffer has focused her practice treating neurological, cardiovascular and orthopedic disorders. “I have gained experience in treating patients after CVA, Parkinson’s and MS to name a few. This is in addition to treating patients who have endured orthopedic pathologies such as joint replacements, fractures and contractures. Additionally, during my clinical rotation here at Reliant Medical Group, I quickly fell in love with the specialty of hand therapy, my next goal is to become a Certified Hand Therapist.”
Jeniffer knows that being diagnosed with a disability or illness or sustaining an injury can be life-changing and a very difficult time in a person’s life. “I really enjoy being able to help individuals or families make this often-negative experience a more tolerable transition,” she explains. “It’s great to have the opportunity to help an individual overcome their problem and be able to return to the activities they love.”
When she is not busy with patients Jeniffer enjoys gardening and crafting, two passions she shares with many of her patients.
