“…I try to make everyone who comes to see me feel at ease.”
Growing up in a small town in Vermont gave Dr. Julie A. Alosi a slightly different perspective on being a surgeon. “I think my small-town background makes it easy for me to relate to people who come to me for care,” she explains. “I come from a long line of people who worked in the service industry and so I know how important personal interactions are. Surgery can obviously be a little intimidating, so I try to make everyone who comes to see me feel at ease.”
In her practice Dr. Alosi performs a lot of oncology surgery, especially for breast cancer and melanoma patients, and she also does thyroid, parathyroid, skin, colon, gallbladder, and many other types of surgery. “For our cancer patients I work closely with physicians in radiation oncology and medical oncology in order to provide the best individualized care for each patient.” She likes to perform many of her procedures using minimally invasive approaches to allow for faster recovery and better cosmetic outcomes.
Dr. Alosi realizes that it’s not always easy for patients to sit down and talk to their surgeon. “Although it’s stressful when patients have a diagnosis that requires surgery, I really enjoy taking the time to educate both the patient and the family, answering their questions and guiding them through the process. I also try to make a people aware of the role other caregivers and specialists play – it’s really a team of people providing care for the patient, not just the surgeon.”
Although her position as a surgeon keeps her very busy, Dr. Alosi still enjoys many of the outdoor activities she pursued growing up, such as running, snowboarding and hiking. She also enjoys reading when she has the time.
