A graduate of the University of Maryland and Rivier University, Kara began her career as a nurse before deciding to become a nurse practitioner. She completed her nurse practitioner training in family medicine in 2011 but has been a nurse practitioner for 13 years in critical care. “I became a nurse practitioner because I wanted to learn more about practicing medicine. I wanted more opportunity to reach people and promote healthy lifestyles,” she recalls. “As a nurse practitioner, I have the ability to manage disease which is very exciting.” During her career Kara has worked in critical care, cardiology and cardiac surgery. “I chose all these areas to build a solid foundation of medicine from infancy to adulthood and finally to the end of life,” she explains. Kara believes strongly in advocating for her patients and providing patient-centered care that respects her patient’s beliefs, lifestyle choices, and culture. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her husband and two children, and cycling. Some of Kara’s favorite places to travel include the coast of Maine, the White Mountains, and the North Shore. She also loves to read and volunteer at her daughter’s elementary school.
