A provider may not have star ratings accompanying his/her website profile for one or more of the following reasons:
“I have been able to balance both my interest in medicine and my interest in computers.”
When asked why he decided to become a physician, Dr. Larry Garber explains, “My mother is a biology teacher and my father is a chemist, so I was introduced to the sciences at a young age. I have also always liked being able to help people in various ways and solve problems and mysteries. Being a physician allows me to do all of that.”
Dr. Garber enjoys getting to know his patients and working with them closely on their medical problems. “It’s always rewarding to have a good conversation with interesting people hearing about their life experiences, while at the same time solving their medical puzzles.”
Dr. Garber also enjoys working with his colleagues at Reliant Medical Group. “The people that I work with here are like a second family. There are a lot of great people at Reliant Medical Group and everyone puts their heart into their work. It’s really impressive the caliber of people we have here.”
As well as being an internist, Dr. Garber is also Medical Director for Informatics at Reliant Medical Group and is helping to implement the Epic system which provides a computerized Electronic Health Record (EHR) for every patient who visits Reliant Medical Group. “It will be a dramatic change for all of us, but the benefits are going to be phenomenal. Epic will give physicians all the information they need, whenever and wherever they need it, and help them provide even better care and service for our patients. Right now, the paper chart doctors use can only be in one place at a time. By using an Electronic Health Record we solve that problem and enjoy a number of other benefits as well. For instance, Epic will help ensure that every patient receives care of the highest quality and safety. It will help make our care not only more efficient but more comprehensive as well.”
According to Dr. Garber, in the future a computer will be just as important to a physician as a stethoscope. “Part of my job here at Reliant Medical Group is to get physicians to embrace this new technology and utilize it as effectively as possible.”
When he is not busy with his patients or dealing with medical technology issues, Dr. Garber enjoys skiing everywhere from Utah in the West to the Alps in Switzerland. He also enjoys many other outdoor activities such as camping. “I have three children and they are all good skiers and campers, so it is very enjoyable to all go together as a family. I really love it.”
