“I believe it’s important to tell my patients what they need to do to stay healthy.”

Dr. Mark Hryniewich grew up in the town of Acton, Massachusetts. As a child, he always had a great interest in science. He decided to choose a career in medicine because of his experiences in helping the local veterinarian take care of the numerous animals his family owned, and his admiration for his family pediatrician.

After graduating from college at Loyola University in Chicago, Dr. Hryniewich attended medical school at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester. After he completed his residency, he joined the Reliant Medical Group Internal Medicine department in Leominster in 1986.

As an internist, Dr. Hryniewich believes strongly in educating his patients about their health. “If I wasn’t a doctor, I’d be a teacher,” he explains. “I believe it’s important to teach people how to take care of their health…that’s one of my goals.” Dr. Hryniewich believes in striking a balance between what modern medicine can accomplish and each individual’s own efforts regarding their health. “You can’t fix everything with a pill, and the patient can’t do it all alone…you have to find a balance,” he explains.

With almost twenty years experience as a physician, Dr. Hryniewich has observed how the role of the internist has evolved over the years. “We’ve really seen a lot of advancements in Internal Medicine. Our jobs as internists are easier, yet also more complicated. Modern drugs and testing procedures have made it so much easier to diagnose and treat patients – that has saved a lot of lives. Yet, on the other hand, diseases such as diabetes are becoming more prevalent due to unhealthy lifestyles. That’s why so many physicians are stressing prevention with their patients. It’s an essential way for people to stay healthy.”

Dr. Hryniewich is married with four children, two boys and two girls. An extremely active person, he loves to participate in sports such as snowboarding, hiking, cycling and swimming, often with his children. “The family and I try to mix having fun and getting exercise at the same time – so far it’s worked pretty well.”
