“Being a surgeon is a very challenging profession, but when a patient shakes your hand and thanks you for curing them, it is extremely rewarding.”
Originally from Louisiana, Dr. Mark E. Stoker has made a home for himself here in the heart of New England as one of the most renowned surgeons at Reliant Medical Group. “It’s very rewarding working here, I enjoy the surgical challenges, building a top-notch department, and achieving quality outcomes for our patients.”
Dr. Stoker’s sub-specialty is minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery. His work in this area has made him a leader in his field presenting his work on surgical techniques at conferences across the country. Dr. Stoker also teaches surgery to resident physicians and was awarded the Frederick J. McCready, MD Teacher of the Year award. “That’s one of the more rewarding aspects of my job, to be able to interact with the residents who are training to become the next generation of surgeons.”
Even when he is not in the operating room, Dr. Stoker manages to keep his hands busy. He is an avid woodworker and enjoys making furniture for his home as well as other projects. Dr. Stoker also enjoys the outdoors and doing things like bird hunting. He also loves to take his three sons bass fishing in the waters off Cape Cod saying, “There’s nothing nicer than a calm, sunny day out on Nantucket Sound with my family.” When he’s not enjoying the outdoors or being a typical “soccer dad” Dr. Stoker likes to relax with a good spy or mystery novel by his favorite author, Nelson DeMille.
