A graduate of the MGH Institute of Health Professions, Nurse Practitioner Michelle Martin finds her work in Reliant’s Neurology department fascinating and enjoys interacting with patients each day. “I find the work really stimulating intellectually because you have to be knowledgeable about the different aspects of your field and keep on top of new advances,” she explains. “There is so much that can be diagnosed just through the patient’s history and the physical exam, even before ordering any labs and tests.” Michelle is a big believer in treating her patients in a respectful and empathetic way. “A lot of times patients come in who have been in pain or who have had other symptoms for a long time, and I think it’s important to treat them as well as you can but also lend a sympathetic ear.” Michelle is also a strong advocate of educating her patients about their illness so they will be empowered in their own care. During her spare time, Michelle enjoys outdoor pursuits such as hiking and kayaking. She also enjoys hanging out with friends, playing the piano, and is currently learning to play the guitar.
