Dr. Maslow has been practicing medicine for 17 years. When asked why she became a doctor, Dr. Maslow explains, “As a small child I frequented urban areas while accompanying my grandmother on various immigration and health projects that were her passion. These experiences sparked my fascination with how city life effects people and their physical and emotional health. I decided at the age of 11 that I wanted to be a doctor because I could not stand to see suffering in these urban areas knowing that if people had better health, they could have a chance to achieve their life’s dreams. As a medical student I quickly grew to love working with children. Children have fertile imaginations and resilience in dealing with illness and suffering that challenges me daily to strive to help them create better lives for themselves.” Fusing her passion for travel and curiosity about people and their lives through trips providing health care abroad cemented her interest in working with an international and under-served population as she does now. “Daily I am reminded that I have the incredible skill and good fortune to help alleviate suffering and give other people a chance at a life that they may not have otherwise had.”
