“I like to provide comprehensive care…”
Dr. Mai Chu enjoys providing eye care with a personal touch for her patients. “When I see my patients I always make a point to get to know them and their daily activities, and understand what is really important to them,” she explains. “I’ve learned that not everyone uses their eyes in the same way. So I work hard to tailor my care to my patient’s exact needs.”
In her practice at Reliant Medical Group, Dr. Chu helps patients with a range of eye care such as exams for new prescriptions, fitting soft contact lenses and rigid gas-permeable lenses, and treatments for dry eye. “I like to provide comprehensive care, whether fine-tuning a new prescription, managing ocular disease, or keeping an eye on a patient’s overall health through diabetic eye checks,” she explains. “I believe in providing a full scope of care for my patients.”
Dr. Chu appreciates being able to use the latest high-resolution imaging to help her patients. ““I really enjoy using new digital imaging technologies, such as Optical Coherence Tomography. This provides detailed, high resolution pictures of the inside of the eye. It can be a valuable tool when diagnosing diseases such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.”
One of the things Dr. Chu enjoys the most about being an optometrist is building strong relationships with her patients. “You really get to know people in this profession,” she explains. “It seems like one day you are fitting a child’s first pair of eyeglasses and before you know it they are applying to college. I really enjoy the long-term relationships I have with patients.”
In her free time Dr. Chu enjoys doing volunteer work with senior citizens. She and her husband also like to enjoy the outdoors, especially hiking and kayaking.
