“Working as a hospitalist gives you a chance to have a really big effect on a patient’s life.”
Born in Pakistan, Dr. Omer Chaudhary comes from a family that’s long been dedicated to medicine. Both his mother and father are physicians and many of his siblings also became doctors. “Almost every day growing up my family would see my father working with patients at his office, as our residence was in the same building. This taught us at an early age how much the medical profession could help people. So it’s not surprising that we all seemed to gravitate to becoming doctors.”
Dr. Chaudhary enjoys his work as a hospitalist, treating Reliant patients who are admitted to Saint Vincent’s Hospital. “Practicing on the hospital side you have more time to spend with the patient,” he explains. “I feel more in touch with the patients working this way.”
As a hospitalist Dr. Chaudhary often treats patients suffering from pneumonia, urinary tract infections, strokes, and congestive heart failure. “If someone is really sick, it’s very rewarding if you can make a difference for them. Working as a hospitalist gives you a chance to have a really big effect on a patient’s life and that’s a very satisfying way to practice medicine.”
According to Dr. Chaudhary one of the greatest technological innovations for doctors recently has been electronic medical records. “Using electronic medical records gives you access to all the previous data on the patient and it really helps with the management of the patient since you have everything you need at your fingertips. I think it’s a great innovation.”
During his free time Dr. Chaudhary enjoys visiting other parts of New England such as the White Mountains and going camping and snowmobiling with his family. He also enjoys following his favorite sports, cricket and soccer.
Please Note: Dr. Chaudhary provides acute medical care for Reliant Medical Group patients who are admitted to Saint Vincent Hospital.
