Learn more about Behavioral Health at Reliant
A graduate of the University of Massachusetts Graduate School of Nursing, Alicia started her career as a registered nurse before becoming a nurse practitioner.
While practicing Family Medicine earlier in her career Alicia became increasingly aware of the gravity of the opioid epidemic and saw the impact it could have on patients, their families and society as a whole. In 2018 she started making addiction medicine a part of her practice and caring for those with substance use disorders. “For me, it is a privilege to journey alongside patients as they reach their recovery and overall health goals,” she explains.
Alicia knows that there is a lot of stigma around mental health, substance use disorders, and addiction. “That stigma can create barriers for patients seeking treatment. As a nurse practitioner, I feel empowered to know that I can help challenge the stigma associated with mental health and substance use disorders by modeling radical acceptance and compassion for patients.”
In her role at Reliant Alicia likes to remind patients that they are the drivers of their healthcare. “My responsibility is to educate them about options available to them and give them the tools they need to reach their healthcare goals,” she explains. “I approach patients as partners in their healthcare journey, and really get to know them as an individual. I strive to always provide care with a holistic, patient-centered approach.”
One of the things Alicia enjoys the most about her job is the opportunity to help people when they need it most. “My goal to build strong relationships with my patients and to make every patient feel seen and heard,” she explains. “I feel privileged to be able to be present for a patient as they initiate their journey to recovery. Every patient’s journey is unique, and it’s extremely rewarding to journey alongside patients as they achieve their recovery goals.”
In her spare time Alicia enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, two children, and their dog. Some of things they enjoy include gardening, hiking, biking, kayaking, and exploring nature.
