Learn more about Behavioral Health at Reliant
Dr. Kimberly Piccoli always had an interest in helping others and working in healthcare. “I explored a lot of different careers in medicine,” she explains. “Ultimately, I knew that becoming a physician would give me the ability to spend time directly with patients and gain a deep understanding of how the human body and mind work, and these were my goals.”
It was toward the end of medical school that Dr. Piccoli decided she would practice in psychiatry. “When I did my clinical rotations, psychiatry was the thing that excited me the most,” she explains. “I was able to spend time with patients, and understand their struggles and their strengths. I knew that this was how I could best help others.”
Dr. Piccoli has a special interest in treating mood disorders as well as perinatal psychiatry. She often treats patients using psychotherapeutic techniques, while addressing medication needs. “The way that I try to approach treating people is to get to know them the best I can…who they live with, what their days look like, what their upbringing has been. Understanding what a person’s life looks like outside of just their symptoms is often essential in finding the right treatments.”
Dr. Piccoli works inside Reliant’s primary care offices and treats patients who are 18 and older. “This way, I am able to work closely not only with the patients but also their primary care providers,” she explains. “Working collaboratively with a patient’s primary care team is such an important piece of the care we can provide, and it ultimately benefits the patient.”
When she is not busy helping patients Dr. Piccoli enjoys being with her family and spending time outdoors, reading, and crocheting.
