"It’s very important to understand the patient when preventing and treating illness.”

Although he grew up in Worcester, Dr. Henri Zhuri spent his early years in Albania where his grandfather was a physician. “I spent a lot of time with him and I think that’s what steered me toward medicine,” he explains. “He showed me what being a doctor was all about and helped me realize it would be a good fit for me.”

As a primary care physician, Dr. Zhuri sees patients with a vast array of concerns. He has strong clinical interests in lifestyle medicine, preventative medicine, management of chronic illness, urgent care concerns, and obesity medicine.

“Obesity is an epidemic in the United States and also in many countries in the world,” he explains. “To understand more about how to treat obesity, I decided to get additional training and did a one-year CME-based fellowship in obesity medicine. Being board-certified in obesity medicine allows me to offer patients innovative treatment modalities and lifestyle changes to lose weight and improve their overall health.”

When working with his patients, Dr. Zhuri always stresses preventative medicine. “It is important that providers guide patients to make the right lifestyle choices throughout life to prevent problems in the future.”

Dr. Zhuri works hard to get to know his patients so he can make the right recommendations to them. “I try to understand what their life is like and how they interact with their world. It’s very important to understand the patient when preventing and treating illness,” he explains. “No one wants to take a medication unless they understand all the risk and benefits of it.” Dr. Zhuri is a big advocate of using the latest technologies in his practice. “I encourage all my patients to use MyChart for communication, as it works really well. I also often recommend apps such as Lose It, My Fitness Pal and Carb Manager to my patients, which can be really helpful.”

When he is not busy helping patients, Dr. Zhuri enjoys spending time with his wife, infant son, and family. He also enjoys being active, playing and watching sports, fantasy football, cooking delicious food, hosting dinners, traveling to warm places, and hands-on work at home.
