Kourtney started her career in medicine as a patient care technician and also worked as a registered nurse before returning to school to become an advanced practitioner. She truly enjoys patient care. “I really enjoy getting to know the patients that I work with. I feel that the best way for them to get the care they need is by getting to know them as people, not just as patients. I love helping them understand their diagnosis and therapies and guiding them on how to improve their health.”
Kourtney chose to work in family medicine because she feels that you can learn more about a patient by also learning about their family and background. “The knowledge and trust that can come from treating not just one member of the family but the entire family is very important,” she explains. “This level of care cannot be understated, and it is something I don’t take for granted.”
In her practice Kourtney makes a point to learn as much as she can about her patient’s lifestyles, their habits, and their ultimate goals for health. “This learning can help me to tailor my approach to better meet my patient’s individual and unique needs. I believe in meeting the patient where they are and being truthful and realistic. I strive every day to help patients in my community live healthier lives.”
Kourtney truly thrives on the ability to help someone. “Whether it is helping a patient to understand a diagnosis better, offering an effective medication or lifestyle change that helps a patient feel better, or learning more about their lives outside the exam room, there’s nothing I enjoy more than making a patient feel heard and empowered to better manage their health.”
In her free time Kourtney enjoys taking long walks with her husband and their dog, reading novels, curating music playlists for friends and family, and getting outside and traveling whenever she can.
