Catherine always knew she wanted a career that would truly make a difference for people. She originally wanted to be a speech pathologist but became intrigued with audiology after shadowing an audiologist during her education. At the same time, some of her family members were experiencing problems with their hearing. So, Catherine decided to shift her focus to becoming an audiologist.
At Reliant, Catherine always approaches care for patients on an individualized basis. “I know patients may have financial or aesthetic concerns about using a hearing aid and I always tries to find a proper balance,” she explains. “I realize that everyone has different hearing loss and communication needs.”
In her practice Catherine has a special interest in diagnosing and treating auditory processing disorders. “This became an interest of mine during my undergraduate internship and I fortunately have been able to pursue internships during my graduate schooling which has allowed me to learn more about this area of audiology.”
As an audiologist Catherine believes that it’s time to end the stigma surrounding hearing loss and hearing aids. “Whether young or old, anyone can suffer from hearing loss that affects their life,” she explains. “It is my belief that better counseling and education of patients can overcome any stigma. I feel that the more people know about hearing and assistive options for hearing loss, the more people will be open to seeing what options are available to enhance their quality of life.”
In her free time, Catherine can be found watching her favorite crime shows with her husband and dogs, playing video games online with her out-of-state friends, or hiking one of the many beautiful trails in our state parks.
