“I want to keep kids healthy and if they are sick, try to make them healthy again.”
Dr. Laurel Schnorr says that she always wanted to be a doctor. “When I was younger, I always had a big interest in science and wanted to work with people every day,” she explains. “As I got older, I had the opportunity to shadow the pediatrician who cared for me growing up and I loved the experience. After that, I knew becoming a physician was what I wanted to do with my life.”
Dr. Schnorr decided to become a pediatrician because she enjoys working with children each day. “Kids are a really fun group to see and care for. They are funny and energetic and have an interesting way of looking at the world. I could have gone into another area of medicine but decided that pediatrics was what I loved the most.”
In her practice, Dr. Schnorr makes a point to emphasize preventative care. “It’s very important to do preventative screening and look into any problems before they start becoming a bigger issue for patients,” she explains. “I want to keep kids healthy and if they are sick, do my best to make them healthy again.”
Dr. Schnorr has noticed that more and more children are dealing with the problem of obesity. “Childhood obesity is an issue many families are dealing with. I try to focus on kids acquiring healthier eating habits and getting more exercise. If kids are physically healthier in terms of their weight it helps them participate in the activities they enjoy and focus better in school.”
During her free time Dr. Schnorr enjoys being outdoors with her husband, two young children, and their dog. “We spend a lot of time at the beach and we also like to travel a lot, including going to Paris, Italy and the Bahamas. We like to get out and explore the world as a family as much as we can.”
