As an OB-Gyn physician, Dr. Liyi Pang has helped to bring hundreds of babies into the world. “Being in the delivery room is one of the things I really enjoy,” he says. “It’s a special moment for both the doctor and patient.”
As well as performing deliveries, Dr. Pang also enjoys surgery, and is an expert in performing gynecologic and urogynecologic surgeries. He especially enjoys using minimally invasive surgical techniques, including laparoscopy and robotic surgery using the da Vinci® Surgical System. These new techniques, which avoid open abdominal procedures, have really benefited gynecology patients by allowing shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times. “That’s the great thing about being an OB-Gyn physician, you get to do primary care with patients as well as extensive surgery. It’s the best of both worlds.”
Dr. Pang enjoys practicing at the Worcester Medical Center and believes it’s a real benefit for him. “Working here allows me to schedule and perform procedures much more easily and my post-op patients are just a short walk away. It’s a great place to practice.”
With his years of experience as an OB-Gyn, Dr. Pang knows that expectant parents have many concerns about their future child. “It’s important to keep patients trouble-free medically, but also keep them happy mentally. I think doing that really benefits the baby too. That’s one reason why I like to develop close relationships with my patients, to get to know their concerns.”
As befitting someone who has delivered hundreds of babies, Dr. Pang is also a father himself. “I think being a father has definitely helped me relate to my patients more. It allows you to see things more easily from the parent’s side.”
When he is not busy in the delivery room or seeing his patients, Dr. Pang enjoys spending time with his family, fishing and following his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox.

Dr. Pang was compassionate, calm and personable. He explained the procedure and discussed why he needed to submit cultures to the lab. He gave me easy-to-understand and detailed instructions to follow based on the results of the lab work I would receive. He also gave me options to contact him if I had further questions or concerns.
