“The good news for patients is that our heart medications are much more effective than they used to be.”
Born in Texas, Dr. Ahmed Mohamed grew up in the Middle East, where he developed an interest in medicine at a young age. “I really enjoyed studying human biology in school,” he explains. “I found it fascinating, so I knew medicine was the best career choice for me.”
As a cardiologist, Dr. Mohamed utilizes non-invasive imaging, including echocardiograms, CT imaging, and nuclear imaging to diagnose a wide range of heart conditions. “These procedures help us pinpoint the reason a patient is having symptoms,” he explains. “Then we can determine the best course of treatment to help.”
One of the biggest problems Dr. Mohamed treats is congestive heart failure. “The good news for patients is that our heart medications are much more effective than they used to be. Using them, we are able to recover a significant portion of the heart’s function and give the patient a better quality of life.”
Dr. Mohamed is a strong advocate for a collaborative approach to care. He believes in giving patients time to share their concerns and emphasizes shared decision-making to ensure treatment plans align with each individual’s values and goals. “I respect a patient’s choice when it comes to their health,” he explains. “Care is best when everyone agrees on the treatment plan.”
According to Dr. Mohamed, the biggest risk factors for coronary artery disease are high blood pressure, poor cholesterol levels, obesity, diabetes and a sedentary lifestyle. “All these are significant risk factors for coronary artery disease. Unfortunately, more and more patients seem to have these risk factors. This is why heart disease is becoming more prevalent.”
When he is not busy in his cardiology practice, Dr. Mohamed enjoys family time with his wife and children. He also likes to play and watch soccer and enjoys reading classic literature.
