A graduate of Quinsigamond Community College and the New England Institute of Technology, Amanda learned about Occupational Therapy when her daughter was born with physical disabilities. “I saw how occupational therapists were able to rehabilitate my daughter to the level of her peers within just a few months,” she explains. “The sincere, holistic care she received, and the effectiveness of it, led me to pursue my career in Occupational Therapy.”
When Amanda’s son began experiencing behavioral and social struggles due to a neuro-developmental disorder, Amanda pursued a Master’s degree to explore more about these aspects of Occupational Therapy. “My children’s experiences, and how they have affected our family, have inspired me to help others have an improved quality of life.”
Amanda has a special interest in learning more about sensory processing disorders and trauma informed care; and how they can affect pediatric patients. “These areas of study have limited research but affect many of our patients,” she explains. “I have found that once you satisfy these needs, the patient is more likely to meet their goals.”
Amanda believes that there are many areas that Occupational Therapy can help patients with. “My training in a wide range of treatment areas has given me valuable experience with patients of all ages who suffer from physical and mental disabilities. This depth of training helps me treat both patients and their families more effectively.”
In her spare time Amanda enjoys traveling and going on adventures with her husband and two children. Her favorite places to visit are Disney World, the White Mountains, and the deserts of New Mexico. She also loves puzzles, playing card games, and crafting with friends. Amanda originally started with Reliant as a check-in/registration specialist and worked for over 16 years in that capacity as she completed her education. She’s glad to be able to continue her career as a provider at Reliant.
