A graduate of the University of Massachusetts – Lowell, Kimberley is a certified gerontological nurse practitioner. Like many nurse practitioners, she started her career working as a nurse and later became an advanced practitioner. “My children were getting older, and after being a nurse for almost 20 years, I was looking for greater challenges,” she explains. “For me, it felt natural to make the progression.”
As a geriatric nurse practitioner, Kimberley believes it’s important to develop close relationships with patients and their family members. “I am always honest and straight forward about diagnoses, and I like to meet with everyone involved to strategize and come up with a plan of care that works best for each individual patient,” she explains.
One of the things Kimberly enjoys the most is being able to have a positive impact on people’s health. “Being a nurse practitioner allows me to utilize my passion for education and help mitigate damage from chronic diseases, as well as use my problem-solving skills,” she explains. “I feel that patient education is essential in order for successful management of illness and promoting wellness.”
In her free time Kimberley enjoys being with friends, family and her pets. She also enjoys gardening, reading, and outdoor activities such as kayaking, hiking and bike riding.
