“You have to get patients on your side in order to be effective.”
Dr. Mary Flynn enjoys seeing and treating patients of all ages. “When working with patients, Family Practice physicians like myself are able to take the whole patient’s health into account as well as their family members,” she explains. “Being able to get to know the whole family and develop long-term relationships is one reason I enjoy working in Family Practice so much.”
In her practice at Reliant Dr. Flynn is a strong believer in getting to know her patients and working closely with them to figure out their goals. “I think in order to be successful with any treatment you have to get the patient to first understand what the problem is, then discuss the best treatment options. You have to get patients on your side in order to be effective.”
Dr. Flynn has a special interest in adolescent medicine and women’s health. “I really enjoy treating adolescents as that is a very challenging but also very rewarding time of life,” she explains. “I am also very involved in women’s health and providing different birth control options such as Nexplanon and IUDs.” In her practice Dr. Flynn also helps patients with behavioral health problems and substance use disorders, including prescribing medications.
Dr. Flynn is encouraged by the patients she sees who use the latest technology to stay healthy. “There is a lot of helpful things now that patients can take advantage of. Wearable devices such as continuous glucose monitors are very beneficial not just for patients but also parents who can receive an alert if their child’s blood sugar drops too low. Plus, the new wearable fitness devices and watches can help give people the information they need to track their progress and be healthier – that to me is exciting.”
When she is not busy seeing patients Dr. Flynn enjoys swimming, yoga, and riding horses, as well as family activities with her husband and daughter.
