“You really have to put your thinking cap on each day as a rheumatologist.”
Dr. Pranathi Narayanareddy was drawn to teaching from a young age, often organizing summer camps for her younger brother and family friends. She also found joy in helping and supporting others whenever she could. “At first, I thought I wanted to become a teacher,” she explains. “But over time, I realized that doctors are teachers too. As a physician, you spend time educating patients about their health and guiding them through their care. In that sense, medicine felt like the perfect blend of my passions – for teaching and for helping people. It truly felt like the best of both worlds. In fact, the word ‘doctor’ comes from the Latin word docere, which means ‘to teach’.”
Dr. Narayanareddy finds the daily work in rheumatology both stimulating and rewarding. “Rheumatic diseases don’t show up the same way in everyone, so every day requires fresh thinking and problem-solving. “You really have to put your thinking cap on each day as a rheumatologist – it’s like solving a new puzzle every day.”
At Reliant, Dr. Narayanareddy treats a variety of conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, gout, lupus and other autoimmune inflammatory conditions. “Fortunately, we have many disease-modifying and biologic medications now that have really been game-changing for patients,” she explains. “These medications help patients enjoy an improved quality of life.” In addition to medications, Dr. Narayanareddy also performs joint injections for patients that can help relieve pain and increase mobility.
Dr. Narayanareddy values building strong partnerships with her patients and taking a collaborative approach to their care. “I like to work together with each patient as a team,” she explains. She emphasizes creating personalized treatment plans, understanding that rheumatic diseases affect everyone differently. “My goal is to find what works best for each patient and helps them live their best possible quality of life,” she says.
Outside of work, Dr. Narayanareddy enjoys spending time outdoors, discovering new cafés and restaurants, traveling the world and cooking her favorite Indian dishes.
