“We can fix problems and help the patient feel much better without requiring a hospital stay.”
Dr. Ramses Thabet Nasif grew up in Egypt, where his father was a urologist. “He was a big influence on me becoming a doctor,” he explains. “Unfortunately, he died of a cardiac condition called arrythmia which developed from a prior heart attack. That’s why I decided to become a cardiologist, so I could help others like him who were suffering from heart disease,” he explains.
As an interventional and structural cardiologist, Dr. Thabet Nasif uses advanced, minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat complex heart problems such as blocked coronary arteries, heart valve defects, and other heart conditions. He is an expert in procedures such percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) which uses stents to keep blocked arteries open. He also uses his interventional cardiology skills to replace damaged heart valves and implant devices that reduce the risk of stroke. The sophisticated procedures that Dr. Thabet Nasif performs allow patients to heal quickly so they can go home the same day as the procedure. “That’s the beauty of what we do,” he explains. “We can fix problems and help the patient feel much better without requiring a hospital stay. It’s very gratifying to be able to do that.”
To avoid heart disease, Dr. Thabet Nasif says that proper diet and exercise is key. “The American College of Cardiology recommends at least three days a week of moderate exercise such as brisk walking, cycling or swimming. Plus, it’s also very important to keep your weight, cholesterol levels, and blood pressure under control. That can really make a difference in avoiding heart disease.” In terms of diet, Dr. Thabet Nasif recommends avoiding processed foods, fried foods, and excess sugar. “I always recommend the Mediterranean diet to my patients, which has been proven to benefit heart health,” he explains.
When he is not busy seeing patients Dr. Thabet Nasif enjoys sports, especially playing soccer. He also likes to read and spend time with his friends and family. Dr. Thabet Nasif also enjoys hiking, camping and traveling with his wife and two children.
