Dr. Michael McBath became interested in science and healthcare at a young age so it wasn’t surprising that he pursued medicine as a career. After medical school Dr. McBath chose to become an OB-Gyn physican because he was drawn to the diversity of work involved. “I liked the fact that there is always a little something new every day when you are an OB-Gyn physician,” he explains.
At Reliant Medical Group Dr. McBath works as a laborist, a physician who concentrates on helping women with labor and delivery. “Previously, I did general OB-Gyn work but at Reliant I will be concentrating just on delivering babies,” he explains. “I really enjoy the delivery process. Generally, it’s a very joyous part of a woman’s life. As a physician, it’s very rewarding to help people give birth and grow their family.”
In his practice Dr. McBath strives to take a team-based approach and identify what is important to the patients. “I will see if they have any particular birth plan or ideas on how they want to be cared for,” he explains. “Then I will work with them to plan a course of action. Of course, in OB-Gyn you can never really predict what is going to happen. Things can change very quickly.”
Dr. McBath says that he aims to give patients the type of birth they want in a safe manner. “Some people are a little hesitant to come to the hospital for a delivery because they are worried about having a C-section instead of a natural delivery. However, we work hard to come up with a birth plan that everyone can be happy with and ensure the safety of the mother and her baby at the same time.”
In his spare time Dr. McBath enjoys cooking as well as eating out. He and his husband enjoy exploring restaurants and breweries as well as hanging out with friends and doing outdoor activities.
