“I think the main thing is to listen carefully to the patient”
The first doctor in his family, Dr. Dhinager Nandagopal was always interested in science and decided to become a physician because he wanted to help improve people’s lives.
Dr. Nandagopal usually works nights, and is what hospital doctors call a Nocturnist. “I basically do admissions, whenever the patient comes to the hospital I do their admitting testing and admitting orders. It’s my job to develop the treatment plan and determine approximately how long they need to be admitted.”
When working with his patients, Dr. Nandagopal makes a point to make them comfortable and listen to their needs. “I think the main thing is to listen carefully to the patient. The more you listen to a patient, the more you learn about their condition.”
Dr. Nandagopal enjoys the fast pace of hospital medicine and taking advantage of the latest technology that is available to help his patients. “I particularly enjoy having an electronic medical record available. Many of my patients are elderly and they sometimes forget the exact medication and dosage they are taking. Fortunately, this is all available inside the electronic medical record. I can also get information from a patient’s primary care doctor this way, which makes it very helpful.”
When he is not working at the hospital Dr. Nandagopal enjoys browsing the Internet, playing games online, watching movies and traveling with his wife.
Please Note: Dr. Nandagopal works with patients of Reliant Medical Group who are admitted to Saint Vincent Hospital during the evening hours.
