“Our ability to evaluate and treat foot problems and help give patients back their mobility is what makes my job so satisfying.”

A graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Henry Henczel is one of the few podiatrists in the country who completed four years of Podiatric postgraduate surgical training. He has been a practicing podiatrist for more than six years and his clinical interests include; elective foot surgery, trauma surgery of the foot and diabetic foot salvage and reconstruction. A visit to his family’s podiatrist when he was younger was what first interested him in Podiatric medicine. “Even at a young age, I found the profession very interesting. In addition to the professional aspect, the other great thing about Podiatry is that you get to meet and treat people of all ages and from all walks of life.”

Dr. Henczel feels it’s important to be as compassionate as he can when treating patients. “Many patients are elderly and their appointment with me could be their only social interaction of the of the day, ” he explains. “I listen carefully to their foot care issues as well as personal aspects of their lives. I enjoy getting to know my patients.”

Many of Dr. Henczel’s patients suffer from diabetes. As an expert in diabetic foot care, he sees many diabetic patients who have decreased sensation in the foot as well as peripheral vascular disease which can lead to limb threatening infections. “At Reliant Medical Group we use a team approach for diabetic foot care. We work in conjunction with our vascular surgeons to assess and improve blood flow for patients who have peripheral vascular disease. Our Infectious Disease specialists are involved in treating the patients with complicated and limb threatening infections. It really is a team effort involving Reliant Medical Group physicians, nurses and support staff.”

Dr. Henczel’s practice also includes the treatment of children with various pathologies of the feet. “I see pediatric patients with various conditions from warts, heel pain and fractures. Since the foot bones in children are still maturing they can be injured easily through over-use in sporting activities.” Plantar fasciitis is a common condition that Dr. Henczel evaluates and treats. “Plantar fasciitis is the inflammation of soft tissue on the bottom of the foot that can lead to heel pain or pain in the arch.”

According to Dr. Henczel, working as part of a large group practice like Reliant Medical Group offers a number of benefits for him and his podiatry patients. “I can see a patient at our office at Gold Star Boulevard and have the ability to have the patient seen in Physical Therapy the same day if needed. It’s great to be able to easily incorporate other specialties into a patient’s care.”

For Dr. Henczel, being a podiatrist is a very satisfying profession that he has grown to love. ” I really feel that I am making a difference in people’s lives. This is what makes my job so satisfying.”
