“I think trust is really the cornerstone of a good physician-patient relationship.”
Dr. Neeraj Mahajan grew up in a family of physicians. “My father is a surgeon, my mother is an OB-Gyn physician, and my extended family has many doctors too,” he explains. “One of the things I learned growing up was that it was deeply important to give back to others. So, becoming a doctor seemed like a natural fit for me.”
During his medical training, Dr. Mahajan realized that Family Practice medicine suited him best. “I wanted to take care of the whole family, from kids to seniors, so that’s why I chose family medicine. I really enjoy caring for extended families and building strong relationships with them. That’s very important to me.”
Dr. Mahajan strives to build trust with all his patients. “As a physician, it’s important to be compassionate, empathetic, and also good listener. Patients have to feel they are being listened to in order to build trust with them. I think trust is really the cornerstone of a good physician-patient relationship.”
In his practice at Reliant, Dr. Mahajan has a special interest in caring for seniors. He also enjoys treating complex health conditions and counseling patients on how to prevent chronic disease. In his office, he often does procedures such as joint injections, cyst and abscess removals, and skin biopsies to make care more convenient for patients.
One of the biggest issues Dr. Mahajan sees with patients is obesity and the health problems it causes. “Obesity starts with childhood, the way kids eat, their activity level, even their education level can affect their weight,” he explains. “A lot of parents don’t know what a healthy diet or lifestyle is. So as a physician I work to educate families on how they can live a healthier life.”
In his free time Dr. Mahajan enjoys spending time with his wife and two boys. They enjoy playing music together as well as other activities. Dr. Mahajan also likes to work out at the gym and go jogging.
