A number of things helped steer Peter into a career as a behavioral health provider, including growing up with a younger sibling with autism and juvenile arthritis, working with children experiencing behavioral and cognitive challenges, and an interest in understanding how mental and emotional states directly influence physical well-being. “I think the best thing about my career is that I get to help people each and every day,” he explains.
Peter utilizes therapies based on biopsychosocial, developmental, and interpersonal systems to help his patients. He enjoys making use of evidence-based behavioral and cognitive interventions to make a difference. “During my many years as a behavioral health provider, I have valued the relationship between emotional and physical wellbeing and how environmental factors impact this relationship and day-to-day functioning,” he explains.
Peter has extensive experience in talk therapy, children’s mental health, community mental health, as well as performing psychiatric/crisis evaluations and collaborating with other medical providers. “I like the fact that I’m in a profession where providers can offer their services in various settings,” he explains. “For instance, I have worked in medical settings, behavioral health community outpatient centers, schools, and a crisis stabilization unit. This has greatly enriched my clinical experience, allowing me to successfully address many problems related to behavioral and physical functioning. It also left me well prepared to work closely with other caregivers in the treatment of my patients.”
When he is not busy helping patients, Peter enjoys spending time with his wife and three boys. He also enjoys outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking, and long walks in the city, as well as listening to music, playing guitar, and spicy cuisine.
