Saima started her career as an ICU nurse before returning to school to become an advanced practitioner. She has been working as a family nurse practitioner since 2015.
Working in the ICU taught Saima the importance of preventive medicine. “So many of the illnesses and complications I cared for could have been mitigated earlier with preventive care,” she explains. “This realization inspired me to pursue Family Practice medicine, where I could focus on prevention and early intervention. Becoming a family nurse practitioner allowed me to combine my passion for prevention with my desire to educate and empower patients.”
Saima enjoys Family Practice medicine because it allows her to care for patients across the lifespan and build a connection with entire families. “Building these long-term relationships and understanding patients in the context of their families and communities is deeply meaningful to me,” she explains. “It gives me the opportunity to not just treat illness but to help shape the health of future generations within the same family.”
Saima believes in a strong collaboration between the patient and provider. “I want to help patients feel empowered and informed about their health,” she explains. “My goal is to treat patients with compassion, to listen fully, and to respect their values and life experiences. I strive to provide care that addresses not only physical health but also emotional and social well-being. There is nothing more rewarding than when a patient tells me they feel heard, cared for, or healthier because of the time we’ve spent together. It reminds me daily why I chose this profession.”
As the mother of two young boys, Saima enjoys spending much of her free time around her family. “We love going on vacations together, exploring new places, and learning about different cultures. We also enjoy fishing, hiking, and spending time outdoors. These experiences recharge me and bring balance to my life.”
