"I find that treating patients that need a lot of care is very satisfying to me.”
As a child Dr. Taruna Chandok was inspired by Mother Theresa to become a doctor. “When I was younger, Mother Theresa visited our school,” she explains. “It made me think about doing something charitable in my life. Later, I thought the best way for me to help others was to become a physician. So, she was really my biggest inspiration.”
Dr. Chandok enjoys the challenge of being a hospitalist each day. “What makes being a hospitalist challenging is that you see and treat a lot of complex cases,” she explains. “In many ways as a hospitalist you bridge the gap between primary care and subspecialty care. Cases can be complex, but I find that treating patients that need a lot of care is very satisfying to me.”
Working as a hospitalist, Dr. Chandok often encounters patients with heart issues. “I have a lot of experience in treating patients with congestive heart failure and other heart problems. In fact, some of my family members have had heart issues and I advise them on the proper protocols for care,” she explains. “I always work hard to educate all my patients and involve them in their care. It’s a great way to build trust and rapport, which is essential for proper treatment.”
Whoever she is treating, Dr. Chandok strives to provide holistic care to her patients. “Treating patients, bringing them smiles each day. I feel that is more satisfying to me than anything else I could do with my life. I really enjoy my work as a hospitalist. Working with patients every day gives me a lot of satisfaction.”
During her free time Dr. Chandok enjoys cooking for her husband and family (she has two children). She also loves to work out in her home gym as well as do yoga and Tabata training.
