Transmitting a cold or the flu to babies as well as the elderly can be deadly in some cases. What’s more, children under the age of six months cannot receive a flu vaccine to help protect them. That’s why it’s so important to avoid coming close to young children and the elderly if you are sick with a cold or the flu. During flu season, you shouldn’t be offended if a new parent asks you not to visit their child whether you are sick. (In fact, some hospitals have strict guidelines that prevent children from visiting newborns.) All parents and those taking care of the elderly should err on the side of caution during flu season.
This year’s flu season is well under way. However, there is still time to receive the flu vaccine to help protect yourself and those you come in contact with from the flu. Please contact your primary care provider to schedule a flu vaccination at Reliant Medical Group.
