Medical Mythbuster: Is a Migraine Just a Really Bad Headache?

Apr 14, 2015 / Health Advice

You’ve probably heard a friend say, “I must have a migraine, my head is killing me.” However, a migraine is simply not just a bad headache. A true migraine headache is a neurological disorder that often causes nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to bright lights and noises, as well as pain. While most people can manage a typical headache, if you think you suffer from migraine headaches you should be evaluated and cared for by a doctor. Although there is no cure, the frequency and severity of migraine headaches can be lessened with proper medication.

How do I know if Botox treatments would be right for me? I get a severe headache every morning, and treat them by taking extra strength Excedrin. Do I need to see a neurologist?

      Hi Adrienne,

It is best to see your primary care provider for this problem, and if they find it necessary then they will refer you to a neurologist.

My migraine headaches days have been cut in half since I have been going to see Dr. Gary Keilson. He has relieved me with Botox treatments on a quarterly schedule. I would not miss my appointment with him for any reason !
