Medical Mythbuster: Does gum really stay in your stomach for seven years?

Although this myth seems to have been around forever, it is simply not true. While the body is not able to fully digest chewing gum, the indigestible gum base simply passes into the small intestine, and then the large intestine, where it winds up in the stool. This happens in about a day. So don’t worry about that gum you swallowed six and a half years ago – it’s not there anymore!
