Michelle started her career as a registered nurse in 2008 before going back to school to become an advanced practitioner in 2015. “I decided to become an advanced practitioner while working in the ICU at Boston Medical Center,” she explains. “I loved critical care and wanted to further my knowledge and skills in that area of medicine.”
At Reliant, Michelle works with geriatric patients performing in-home care visits for patients with complex needs. “I really enjoy working with the geriatric population and helping them deal with their different health issues,” she explains. “I believe in treating the patient as a whole – including their physical, mental, and emotional health. Educating patients and involving their family is also important in the way I practice.”
When treating patients, Michelle works hard to make sure they don’t become overly medicated. “The older the patient, the more likely it is that they have multiple specialists and this can sometimes lead to overprescribing medications. So, I always keep a close eye on that. I think it’s important to listen carefully to my geriatric patients so that they can get the proper, individualized care that they need.”
When she is not busy seeing patients, Michelle enjoys going to the beach, traveling (especially to Florida), boating, cooking, reading, watching movies and spending time with her fiancé and twin-sister Lisa. She also has four adorable cats that she enjoys taking care of.
