Medical Mythbuster: Are Frozen Fruits and Vegetables as Nutritious as Fresh?

This idea is a myth. In fact, frozen fruits and vegetables can sometimes be even more nutritious than fresh. How so? Picking fruits and vegetables at the peak of their ripeness and freezing them locks them into a nutrient-rich state. Most fresh fruits and vegetables destined to be shipped are picked before peak ripeness which means their vitamins and minerals are less developed. They are also exposed to heat and light before purchase which can degrade them. So don’t worry about eating frozen vegetables – they’re often more healthy than fresh!

I always pick up fresh blueberries at a family in Holden who grows them. I freeze them and use for pancake or jam in winter time it works very well

Thanks for the information. Fresh would certainly spoil before eaten. I actually just stocked up on frozen fruits and veggies. Then summer we switch to local farmers markets or CSA programs.
