How to Eat Healthy in the New Year

Happy New Year! If you are looking to eat healthy foods, but don’t know where to start, you have come to the right place.

Eating Healthy Often Includes Going Back to the Basics.

A simple way to begin is to start adding a variety of foods to your diet.  Many of us eat the same foods and the same colors all the time.  It is easy to pick the same thing everyday because we know how long it will take to make it and what it is going to taste like.  The problem with this is a lot of essential nutrients that are important for our health may be missing.  Also, you may be missing out on a lot of tasty foods!  Eating the rainbow, or making sure you are eating foods with a variety of color not only looks more appetizing, but it also ensures that you are getting the nutrients that your body needs.

Why is Color Variety So Important?

Each color provides specific nutrients and phytochemicals.  Phytochemicals are plant chemicals that are believed to protect nutrients that our bodies need and may help to prevent diseases, such as cancer and heart disease. So how can you start including some more variety in your diet?  Add the foods listed below to some of the foods you normally eat.  If you already eat these foods, good for you!
