A provider may not have star ratings accompanying his/her website profile for one or more of the following reasons:
“The comfort of the patient is paramount for me.”
Dr. Sunita Vyas was inspired to become a doctor by her uncle, who was a physician in India. “I saw the impact he had on his patients in his role as a family doctor and that really motivated me to pursue medicine. He was an important role model for me,” she explains.
Originally a radiologist when she first became a physician, Dr. Vyas decided she wanted to have more patient contact and become an internist. After her residency in Internal Medicine she made the decision to pursue a career as a hospital-based internist, and now works for Reliant Medical Group at Saint Vincent Hospital.
One of the reasons Dr. Vyas enjoys hospital-based medicine is that she finds it very challenging. “In a hospital setting, we are usually dealing with very ill patients. However, it’s very rewarding to see people get better. Patients can often make tremendous progress in just three days with the right treatment.”
When Dr. Vyas is treating her patients, their health and overall well-being is always of the utmost concern. “Unless I feel I can do something to improve the patient’s quality of life, I feel I’m not doing them justice – that’s my philosophy. The comfort of the patient is paramount for me.” For her work as a hospitalist, Dr. Vyas was named Reliant Medical Group Physician of the Year in 2008.
Dr. Vyas loves the outdoors and in her free time she enjoys traveling to different National Parks across the nation with her family. “My goal is to travel to as many of the National Parks as possible,” she says. “I really enjoy them.” Dr. Vyas also enjoys hiking, gardening and biking in the warmer months, and skiing and sledding in the winter.
Please Note: Dr. Vyas provides acute medical care for patients of our Neponset Street, Worcester site who are admitted to Saint Vincent Hospital.
